Building B199 Istanbul Residences by Oncuoglu Architecture in Istanbul
January 6th, 2010 - Posted in Architecture DesignLocated on Buyukdere Street, the newly developed business district of Istanbul, Oncuoglu Architecture designed the B199, a 74.500 m² mix-use development for Istanbul. It’s a planned as a mixed-use development consisting of 32 floors which is aimed to be a landmark for the city. B199 Istanbul project stands out from the buildings nearby with its design inspired from the historical urban topography of Istanbul. Inspired by the urban landscape of Istanbul, the project occupies the intersection of the Gultepe and Buyukdere, two districts with different urban patterns.
Conceptually, the project is designed with a spatial and social fluidity in an effort to create an intermediate space to fuse different spaces and social groups. The project is mainly composed of residences which are designed detached from the ground level and located on the upper floors. Although the building is designed as high-rise, the project’s main composition is shaped by open terraces on upper floors and social spaces on the lower floors. B199 is designed to offer social gathering spaces, such as gardens located on the shifted roof levels, to raise social interaction. The differentiation of the facades and terraces is designed to optimize sunlight and views of the cityscape.
The office spaces are designed as a buffer zone between retail spaces and residences on intermediate floors. While the ground is designed as a public space, the roof of the offices are designed as a secondary level which is a green and recreational area for the use of the residents as private space. Every floor and residence acquires a unique character as a result of the differentiation of the façades and terraces for optimum benefit from the sun and the city view.
